JOL is an editorial guide to Cape Town. A person chooses every place you see here and writes the note that goes with it. That makes it an opinion offered in good faith, not a directory and not a guarantee.

By using the service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, the honest move is not to use it.

You sign in with your email or with Google, and you are responsible for whatever happens through your account. Keep access to your inbox secure — anyone who can read your email can request a sign-in code.

You may close your account whenever you like by writing to hello@thejol.co.za. We may close it if you use the service to break the law or to damage it for other people.

We do not own, run, or speak for any venue on this site. Opening hours change, kitchens close early, and places shut down without telling anyone. Check before you travel, especially if you are going far.

Anything that happens at a venue is between you and that venue. What we can promise is that we describe places honestly and correct ourselves when we get it wrong — tell us at hello@thejol.co.za and we will look at it.

Routes and maps are suggestions, not instructions. You are the one deciding whether a walk, a neighbourhood, or a time of night suits you. Use your own judgement about your safety and follow local advice.

Use JOL for finding your way around the city. Do not scrape it, resell it, republish our writing as your own, or try to break into parts of it that are not yours. Do not use it to harass a venue or a person.

The writing, the selection, the design and the name belong to JOL. Photographs and place details come from their own sources and remain theirs. What you save in the app stays yours, and you can take it with you or have it deleted.

The service is offered as it is. We do not promise it will always be available, always be correct, or always suit your plans. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that follow from using it — a missed booking, a closed door, a trip that disappointed you.

Nothing here takes away rights you have under South African consumer law. Where those rights conflict with these terms, those rights win.

These terms change as the product changes, and the date at the top moves when they do. If a change matters to you, we will say so in the app rather than quietly edit this page.

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa handle any dispute arising from them.
